Ascendant

The Astrological Ascendant is also referred to as the "Applicable Sun Sign Rising."

This is the Sign, or sub-division of the Sign, which was rising on the eastern horizon, (the point in space where the horizon and The Ecliptic intersect in the easterly direction), at the moment of a persons birth. In the Placidian system of Houses this also marks the cusp of the First House.

The Astrological Ascendant or Rising Sign has a strong influence upon the personality and physical appearance of the person. Its opposite is the Descendant and is located on the western horizon.

Each Sign takes approximately two hours to rise above the horizon.

Aries Rising
You are a born leader. You are bold but impulsive. You tend to act first and ask questions later. You come on strong. You may appear to others as arrogant, self centered, and single minded.

Taurus Rising
You take your time in reacting to situations. Your response to most situations is supportive and even handed. As a result, you come across as gentle and stable. In emotionally charged circumstances, you can be very stubborn.

Gemini Rising
You enjoy talking and communicating with others. You come across as intelligent, quick, verbal, and witty. You are a little on the nervous side as you tend to be all things to all people. You are very changeable.

Cancer Rising

Leo Rising

Libra Rising
You are very social and diplomatic. You have a natural ability to "mirror" others, always responding in a way to flatter and please. This makes you tend to be all things to all people. You are so polite, one wonders if you have a thinking process of your own.

Scorpio Rising
You gravitate to positions of control and power. You are penetrating, intense, secretive, and passionate. You are very sensitive, and as a result, can get to the heart of things.

Sagittarius Rising
You come across as open minded, tolerant, frank, candid, and your manner is scrupulously honest. You are honest to the point, at times, of being harsh. You love to travel, whether it is across the Earth or in your mind with higher learning such as religion and philosophy.

Capricorn Rising
You come across as a sharp business and career person. You present yourself in a very practical, conservative, and objective manner. You are clear minded. Others may mistakenly interpret this as emotional coolness.

Aquarius Rising
You are a very social being. You are highly intelligent. You have the gift of communicating well in groups especially when the group is working for a worthwhile goal. You are impartial and open to new ideas. Your idealism is apparent to all who come to know you.

Pisces Rising
Your genuine concern for others comes across and is communicated in everything you say and do. You are very gentle and peace loving. Your sensitivity gives others the sense that you are long suffering and capable of much personal sacrifice.
