The Astrological Planet
Venus

The Astrological Planet VenusAt first glance, if Earth had a twin, it would be Venus. The two planets are similar in size, mass, composition, and distance from The Sun. But there the similarities end. Venus has no ocean. Venus is covered by thick, rapidly spinning clouds. These clouds trap surface heat, creating a scorched greenhouse-like world with temperatures hot enough to melt lead.

The pressure on Venus is so intense that standing on the surface would feel like the pressure felt 900 meters deep in Earth's oceans. Venus' cloud cover also reflects sunlight in addition to trapping heat. Because Venus reflects so much sunlight, it is usually the brightest planet in the sky.

Astrological Influences of Venus

Venus is the Planet of love, balance, harmony, our finances, and money.

Venus is beauty, grace and refinement and she instills these energies forward for us to draw from. Venus concerns herself with love, especially the flame of spiritual love, along with our emotional attachments, whether it be a marriage, friendships, or business partnerships and unions.

Venus bestows happiness to all who love and appreciate others. For that reason she calls on us to balance our emotions with ourselves and those around us. When we have our emotions balanced and we are creatively doing what makes us happy, we attract to us what is necessary for beautiful surroundings, comfortable living, tasteful clothing, fine art, and other objects.

Venus is the universal sign for the female and the feminine. She is the only female Planet in our Solar System and brings her “yin” nature to the table. She makes things flourish.

Mythology of Venus

The Greeks associated Venus with the goddess Aphrodite. To the Romans, it was known as Lucifer, the Morning Star: and Vesper, the Evening Star.

To the Chaldeans it was Ishtar, and compared to the Sumerian virgin mother, the "Lady of Heaven," and the goddess of fertility.

"God created the stars and the heaven for more than the sake of beauty. He gave them to us for interpretation so that we may live a more productive life. Man is superior to the stars if he lives in the power of superior wisdom. Such a person, being the master over heaven and earth, by means of his will, is a Magus, and magic is not sorcery but supreme wisdom."
-- Paracelsus
